One of the interesting things about our times that people are living longer than ever, so you would think there's more practical wisdom to pass around. But I feel like we're going the opposite direction by getting more entrenched in consumerist culture. It's unfortunate that with our increasingly aging population, we are not taking advantage of improved life strategies. Our culture is so sedated by media imagery that the elderly don't mature fast enough, they regurgitate some ideology, or succumb to arguing on the internet, or get ignored if they have substantial things to say. To me this is more about brainwashing than a lack of brain power. I'm not letting my kids become addicted to screens for that very reason- one among a myriad of other health benefits.
