There is some archetypal force of April
That likes to leave me starstruck and smitten.
Gypsies in the sky do meteorite cartwheels
As my heart longs for a savant in California,
Whose rosy smooth skin, big vibrant eyes
And golden hair make her shine
Like the petals of a day lily.
Those botanic mandalas of regeneration
Beckon me forth to the exploration
Of aquariums and safaris a thousand miles down the coast.
I drive straight on, thru’ sea lion coves,
Redwood forests, and the palisades of surf bums.
Rollin’ fast down Highway 101, making a run,
Big as a mountain, high as the sun,
Maroon Camry cruisin’ the coast
Past date palms and beach babes at host,
Dancin’ ‘round gold-dust bonfires,
The reggae quixotic with marijuana magic
Cavorting through the air, somehow less tragic.
Daffy Duck will still be terrorizing Hollywood,
The Love Police will still be on my back,
But I don’t care if my heart gets arrested again.
